The Benefits

Benefits Of Renewing Your Loft Insulation

Upgrading your loft insulation is one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve energy efficiency, cut heating costs, and reduce your carbon footprint. Discover why renewing your loft insulation is a smart investment for comfort, savings, and sustainability.

Temperature icon

Warmer Home Environment

Old insulation lets heat escape, making homes colder in winter and hotter in summer. Fresh insulation ensures year-round comfort.

Fire icon

Fire Retardant

Modern loft insulation is designed with fire-retardant properties, helping to slow the spread of flames and improve home safety.

Mute icon

Reduces Airborne Noise

Loft insulation acts as a sound barrier, absorbing airborne noise and reducing disturbances from outside and between floors.

Mouse Animal icon

Protects Against Infestations

Old or damaged insulation can become a nesting ground for pests. New insulation seals off entry points and deters infestations.

Moisture icon

Prevents Damp & Mould

Worn-out insulation can trap moisture, leading to condensation, mould growth, and potential health issues. Renewing it keeps the loft dry.

CO2 icon

Reduces Carbon Footprint

Improved insulation means less energy consumption, helping to lower CO₂ emissions and support sustainability.

The How

How Does Loft Insulation Work?

Loft insulation acts as a thermal barrier, preventing heat from escaping through your roof. Since up to 25% of a home’s heat loss occurs through an uninsulated loft, installing high-quality insulation helps retain warmth, making your home more energy-efficient and reducing heating costs.

Heat Rises

Warm air naturally rises within a building. Without insulation, much of this heat escapes through the roof, leading to energy loss.

Insulation Material is Installed

Insulating material – commonly mineral wool, fibreglass, or spray foam – is laid between and over the joists or rafters in the loft to create a thermal barrier.

Thermal Barrier Traps Heat

The insulation material slows down the movement of heat by trapping air within its fibres. This helps reduce the amount of heat escaping through the roof.

Heat is Retained Inside

With the thermal barrier in place, more heat stays within the living areas of the home, maintaining a warmer indoor environment with less energy needed.

Energy Bills are Reduced

Because less heat escapes, the heating system doesn't have to work as hard or run as long, resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced bills.

Environmental Impact is Lowered

By conserving energy, loft insulation also reduces carbon emissions, making it an eco-friendly solution for improving home efficiency.

Your Questions, Answered

Spray foam may need to be removed due to improper installation, trapped moisture, roof leaks, off-gassing issues, or if you’re planning a renovation or upgrade to your insulation. Improperly applied foam can also cause timber rot or ventilation issues.

There are two main types of foam, Open Cell, and Closed Cell. Open Cell is soft and squishy, you could squash a piece the size of a football down to the size of a tennis ball with ease and is easy to remove. Closed Cell is just the opposite, its tough, rigid, and cannot be squashed, it is very dense and difficult to remove.

Common signs include condensation, damp smells, reduced indoor air quality, or visible mold or rot. If your home insurance or surveyor has flagged the insulation as problematic, it’s time to consider removal.

Yes. Target Net Zero is fully insured, and our removal specialists follow industry best practices.

At Target Net Zero, we use specialised tools and techniques to carefully extract the foam while minimising disruption. We take extra care to protect your property and leave the area clean and safe after the job is done.

Our technicians are trained to avoid structural damage. In cases where the foam has caused wood rot or other issues, we’ll alert you and provide necessary repairs where needed.

The timeline depends on the size of the area and the type of foam used, but most residential removals are completed within 1–3 days. We’ll give you a clear estimate before work begins.

Once the spray foam is fully removed, we can recommend and install a more suitable insulation option, such as traditional loft insulation, that’s breathable, compliant, and mortgage-friendly.
